The 2024 Artificial Intelligence Conference, hosted by the United Nations University Institute in Macau, provided a unique global dialogue opportunity and served as a contribution of the United Nations University to the 2024 UN Future Summit;

Nearly 500 representatives from academia, government, business, international organizations, and civil society from over 30 countries attended, including 30 ministers and senior officials of information and communication technology;

The conference focused on the theme "Making AI Work for Everyone: Bridging Gaps, building a Sustainable Future" and featured 26 parallel sessions covering three major thematic directions;

At the plenary session, the "United Nations University Policy Guidelines: Recommendations for Using Synthetic Data to Train AI Models" was released;

The United Nations University Global AI Network was officially launched in the presence of more than 30 founding members.

On April 25, 2024, the United Nations University held the launch ceremony of the UNU AI Network in the Macao Special Administrative Region of China. Lu Jialiang, Vice Dean of Education at SPEIT, attended the ceremony as a founding member.

Professor Tshilidzi Marwala, President of the United Nations University and UN Under-Secretary-General, attended the launch ceremony and lit up the UNU AI Network with 30 partners. At the first working meeting of the alliance following the launch ceremony, Lu Jialiang shared the school's work on "Responsible AI," the opportunities and challenges AI brings to education, and emphasized the significance of participating as a founding member in global AI governance, bridging gaps, and building a sustainable future.

The official launch of the UNU AI Network was also a key event of the UNU Macau AI Conference. Scholars, government officials, businesses, and institution representatives from around the world gathered for in-depth and lively discussions on various AI fields, particularly global governance, sustainable development, education, health, and youth, through 25 parallel forums.

In 2024, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the United Nations University Institute in Macau (UNU Macau) continued close cooperation: Serge Stinckwich, Research Director of UNU Macau, was invited to deliver a keynote speech at the first Shanghai Jiao Tong University Sustainable Development Goals International Education Forum in 2024 and visited SPEIT. Dr. Meng Wenting from UNU Macau shared her experience working in international organizations with university students.

In the future, both parties will further strengthen their cooperation through collaborative research, student exchanges, and internships to jointly promote the application and development of AI technologies in various fields, particularly in global AI governance and sustainable development.
