Academician Lü Jian Guests at Institute's Academic Salon

To further promote academic exchanges among young teachers and support the growth of young faculty members, the Paris School of Excellence in Engineering held an academic salon for young teachers and the second meeting of the institute's 2024 Young Teachers Association on the afternoon of June 14.

 

This academic salon was honored to invite Professor Lü Jian, a consultant professor at the institute, an academician of the French National Academy of Technologies, and a chair professor at City University of Hong Kong, to exchange academic insights with young teachers. More than twenty people, including Zhang Wenming, the Chinese dean of the Paris School of Excellence in Engineering, Zhong Shengyi, the vice dean, as well as young teachers and students, attended the event.

On behalf of the institute, Zhang Wenming warmly welcomed Academician Lü Jian and expressed the hope that the attending teachers and students would make the most of this rare opportunity to engage deeply with Academician Lü Jian, absorb his valuable academic experiences and wisdom, actively participate in interdisciplinary research, and continuously enhance their academic level and innovative capabilities.

 

Following this, the young teachers gave brief presentations on their respective research topics.

He encouraged the young teachers to remain true to their original aspirations, strive for excellence, face challenges with an open mind, and lead the future with innovative thinking.

The young teachers' academic salon serves as an important platform for academic exchange and discussion at the Paris School of Excellence in Engineering. The institute will continue to organize academic exchange activities, invite top experts to share cutting-edge topics, and create a strong research atmosphere to support the growth of young teachers and promote the development of interdisciplinary studies at the institute.

Guest Biography

Lü Jian is an academician of the French National Academy of Technologies, a chair professor of mechanical engineering at City University of Hong Kong, the director of the Center for Advanced Structural Materials, the president of the Hong Kong Materials Research Society (HK-MRS), and the vice-chairman of the Expert Committee of the China Additive Manufacturing Alliance. His research involves the preparation and mechanical properties of advanced nanomaterials, 3D/4D printing, and prestressed engineering of structural and functional materials. He has published over 500 papers in journals such as Nature, Science, Nature Materials, and Nature Chemistry, with more than 43,000 citations. He holds 72 patents in Europe, the US, and China. In 2011, he was elected as an academician of the French National Academy of Technologies (NATF), becoming the first Chinese academician among the more than 300 academicians of the academy. In 2006 and 2017, he was awarded the Knight of the National Order of Merit and the Knight of the Legion of Honor of France, respectively. In 2018, he received the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award from the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
