On August 28, 2024, the opening ceremony of the 2024 undergraduate freshmen of the École des Excellence des Études des École des Études des Excellence in Paris of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was held in the lecture hall 205 of the Sino-French Building. More than 100 undergraduate freshmen gathered together to start a new journey in life with a vision for the future.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Lu Jialiang, Vice Dean of the College, who expressed the warmest welcome to the new students on behalf of all the members of the College. The ceremony was attended by Professor Chen Cailian, Secretary of the Party Committee, Professor Zhang Wenming, Chinese Dean, Professor Yao Xue, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Li Liangwei and Zhu Yunhui, alumni representatives, and teachers from various teaching groups and offices. Professor Frederic Toumazet, Dean of the French side, sent a French greeting remotely.
The ceremony kicked off with the solemn national anthem.
Subsequently, Lisa, a digital anchor of Shanghai Jiaotong University, brought a real-time news report on the opening ceremony, which was developed by Zhu Yunhui, a 2023 alumnus of the school, and "Raspberry Technology Company", a doctoral student from the multimedia laboratory of the Institute of Electrical Engineering, which integrates a number of cutting-edge technologies such as deep learning. The School said that it will continue to support students and alumni with innovative and entrepreneurial aspirations.
Professor Zhang Wenming, the Chinese Dean of the School, delivered a speech. He said that language is the magic key, encouraging new students to learn Chinese, English and French to become international talents. At the same time, we pay attention to the expansion of thoughts, horizons and minds, and cultivate comprehensive ability. The year 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, and the Chinese side held a series of celebrations. It is hoped that the new students will carry forward the Olympic spirit, grow into international talents with the world in mind, show the demeanor of Chinese and French students, and write their own life legends.
Lei Xuanwu, a freshman of the class of 2024, delivered a speech, calling on students to consolidate the foundation of mathematics and science, cultivate the spirit of innovation, have the courage to challenge themselves, seize opportunities, and become elites with both a solid foundation and an international vision, and jointly write a new chapter in a wonderful university life.
Li Liangwei, a representative of the outstanding alumni and a 2020 undergraduate graduate, shared his experience of seizing opportunities and struggling in his youth. He used to work for Alibaba, and is currently starting his own business in the field of AIGC, inspiring students to innovate and make breakthroughs with full concentration and continuous motivation.
Teacher representative Ms. Kong Sijia, as the first graduate of the college, returned to teach after graduating from PSL, a top engineering school in France, and is also one of the freshman class teachers, imparting experience, guidance and care to students.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, and China-France relations have entered a new journey. The School believes that after the new force joins, all teachers and students will uphold their original aspirations and forge ahead, and the Paris School of Excellence Engineers will be able to achieve more outstanding and brilliant results.
